Low Carbon announces the appointment of John J. Graves, CFA to the Investment Committee of Low Carbon Investment Management

The appointment of Graves will help Low Carbon to accelerate its global expansion in large-scale renewable energy

With 20 years’ experience as a senior institutional investor and limited partner, Mr. Graves will leverage his expertise in underwriting private funds and customised investment programmes, with a focus on large-scale real assets platforms in infrastructure and renewable energy, to accelerate Low Carbon’s global expansion.

Mr. Graves has acted as Assistant Senior Investment Officer at the Washington State Investment Board (WSIB) for over 10 years, sourcing and negotiating more than $5 billion in investments in 24 private fund vehicles. He oversaw a $1 billion WSIB renewable energy portfolio which stands to deliver over 3 GW of renewable power capacity in the US, Europe, Asia and Latin America across a range of energy technologies, including onshore wind, solar, solar/battery and hydropower.

Prior to joining WSIB, Mr. Graves held senior positions at JP Morgan Asset Management/Bear Stearns as a hedge fund manager and worked for the Rockefeller Family Office as a portfolio manager and strategic advisor to private clients.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr. Graves said “I’m honoured to join Low Carbon Investment Management to help the organisation evaluate and underwrite institutional quality renewable energy projects at scale while ensuring the interests of limited partners. Low Carbon is laser-focused on making a positive impact on climate change, and I believe the opportunities created by the current energy transition will require the smartest minds and capital, and large amounts of both. I look forward to working with the professionals at Low Carbon, who have deep expertise across the entire range of renewables technologies and have developed an impressive track record in top-quality execution and delivery of clean energy into Europe. This is poised to accelerate as the company delivers on its growing pipeline of over 5 GW across the UK and continental Europe, with the ambition to expand to the US and Asia in the near future.

Commenting on the appointment, John Stuart, Managing Director of Low Carbon Investment Management said, “We at Low Carbon are delighted to welcome John to the Investment Committee. John shares our ambitions to address climate change through investment in renewable energy projects at scale, and as we look to continue rapid investment in projects and growing our portfolio, it could not be a better time for someone of John’s calibre to join our team. Through his work at WSIB, he has extensive experience in investing in renewable energy around the world, which will help shape our global aims.”
