Juan Martin Alfonso

Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer

Juan brings more than 20 years’ experience in international financial management and a strong commercial viewpoint developed through involvement in M&A, investment, fundraising and financing deals in the energy sector. In his roles as COO and CFO, Juan sits on Low Carbon’s Board of Directors and is a member of the Investment, Valuation and Risk Committees. He joined Low Carbon from the AES Corporation where he spent 12 years in a variety of senior finance roles responsible for the power generation and utilities businesses operating in Latin America, Europe, Middle East, Asia and Africa. Prior to AES, Juan worked at Deloitte & Touche and is a Public Accountant.

Roy Bedlow

Chief Executive

Roy is co-founder of Low Carbon, founder and CEO of Trust Power and Managing Partner of Oxygen House. He is a founder member of the Carbon War Room and a Trustee of the Rocky Mountain Institute. As former Vice President and General Manager of Palm Europe, Roy founded the Geneva-based Handspring Sarl, later acquired by Palm. Prior to Palm, Roy was Apple’s European Marketing Director.

Tom Cowley

Investment Manager

Tom has spent 10 years in transaction and investment across renewables and clean tech. Previously at Octopus Renewables, he led the divestment of the AD Portfolio and has further experience with Earth Capital Partners and Energy Invest Group.

Leo Fortey

Investment Director

Leo has more than 8 years’ experience developing and financing renewable energy projects. At Low Carbon, Leo is central to Low Carbon’s European solar development activities, with a focus on the Irish and Dutch renewable energy markets. Prior to joining Low Carbon, Leo built his experience at AGR Renewables and Coriolis Energy developing and financing UK and Irish wind and solar projects.

Ian Larive

Managing Director

Ian has developed and financed a wide portfolio of utility scale energy projects including solar PV, battery storage and reserve power. Prior to joining Low Carbon in 2012, Ian was in the Ingenious renewable energy team where he raised and deployed funds in the solar and energy-efficiency sectors. Ian is a chartered accountant and began his career at Deloitte latterly working in their M&A Tax group on numerous private equity-backed transactions.

Les MacAnnan

Investment Associate

With over 8 years’ experience working on infrastructure transactions and corporate strategy, Les was previously at Hermes Infrastructure and Barclays investment banking division.

Steve Mack

Chief Investment Officer

Steve has more than 20 years’ transactional experience in the power and renewable energy sector and has been involved in all investments made by Low Carbon to date.  Steve joined Low Carbon in 2012 as General Counsel and prior to that was a corporate partner at CMS Cameron McKenna working on a wide range of corporate and financing transactions in the sector. Steve also has investment banking experience at HSBC. 

Dominic Noel-Johnson

Managing Director

Dominic has 15 years of investment experience in renewable energy and infrastructure and leads Low Carbon’s investments in the waste to energy and energy efficiency sectors. Prior to joining Low Carbon, Dominic was an Investment Principal at the UK Green Investment Bank (now GIG) which invested in projects worth >£10bn over 5 years and led the firm’s first development business. Prior to GIG, Dominic worked at Hudson Clean Energy Private Equity, one of the world’s first large scale and dedicated renewable energy investment businesses, and Citigroup Equity Research where he covered Industrial Conglomerates based in Hong Kong where he was a named analyst in their #1 ranked research team. Dominic has an MBA from INSEAD and a BA from Trinity College Dublin.

Martin Pickard

Investment Director

A qualified accountant, Martin has more than 30 years’ international energy-sector experience with corporate and private equity investors, originating, structuring and closing many energy-related acquisitions and transactions. A founder of Rockland Capital in 2003 and Rockfield Energy in 2008, Martin led investment in more than 1.25GW of thermal assets and over 150MW of renewable energy projects. For Low Carbon, Martin has originated and developed over 200MW of solar assets.

Grace Purvis

Investment Associate

Grace Purvis joins Low Carbon from PwC, where she spent more than five years working in the Energy & Infrastructure transaction services team. She advised on a variety of deals across the sector, including AMP and Infracapital's divestment of Adven Oy and KKR's acquisition of Viridor. Grace is a qualified accountant.

Chris Ratcliffe

Head of Investment Analysis

Chris is the Head of Investment Analysis at Low Carbon. Chris has more than 15 years’ experience in the energy sector working primarily in corporate planning, project finance and business development. At Low Carbon he has supported transactions in multiple sectors including storage, solar and wind. During his career he has been directly involved in raising bond, debt and equity funding in the energy sector of over $1Bn. Prior to entering into industry, he qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Ernst and Young in South Africa before moving to PwC within their energy transactions team working on deals throughout Europe.

Mike Rutgers

Head of Development

Mike has been developing renewable energy projects throughout Europe and Africa since 2007.  Prior to joining Low Carbon, Mike has held senior development positions at global solar industry players including SunPower and SunEdison.  Mike is a qualified solicitor in both the UK and New Zealand and has an MBA from Said Business School, University of Oxford.
