Low Carbon is a shareholder of Nur Energie, an independent solar power plant developer engaged in utility-scale concentrated solar power (CSP) and photovoltaic (PV) projects. Nur currently has over 2,200MW under development in Greece, Morocco, Tunisia and France.
Nur’s flagship solar export project, TuNur, links a 2GW CSP plant in the Tunisian Sahara to the European grid via a dedicated HVDC transmission line to Italy. Once landed in Italy the power will be transported to customers throughout Europe. By 2018 TuNur will supply low-carbon power to 2.5m European homes. The project will incorporate thermal storage, allowing the production of electricity even after sundown. By offering customers non-intermittent “base load” renewables, this makes TuNur a real alternative to fossil fuel and even nuclear plants.
